Officina Latinitatis est ergasterium virtuale (scilicet officina interretialis) linguae Latinae dicatum; est locus quidem, ubi magistri, discipuli sermonisque studiosi scripta, fabulas et narrationes Latinas modernas sive neo-Latinas - praesertim ex vernaculis a se noviter conversas, ut olim, temporibus non tam longe remotis, fieri plerumque solebat - cum aliis communicare possint, Latinitatem more "vivo" et activo colentes, necnon vestigia sectantes latinistae Hungari Arcadii Avellani (i.e. Arkàd Mogyoròssi).

Qui vero, dum munere fungitur praeceptoris domestici nepotum Johannis D. Rockefeller (negotiatoris suae aetatis opulentissimi), id clarius animadvertit, scilicet ad quemlibet sermonem peregrinum rite callendum omnino opus esse scriptis ad lectionem aptis, quae non solum recte et emendate exarata, verum etiam ingenio discipulorum accommodata sint, eorumque maxime studium et curiositatem suscitent (i.e. pleasure reading): cuiusmodi tamen notae haud saepe reperiuntur in scriptis ad litterarum Latinarum inexplebilem ferme thesaurum pertinentibus. Inde initium cepit opera, quam Avellanus, ut nepotes Johannis Rockefeller ad linguam Latinam amplectendam facilius atque iucundius deduceret, in fabulis Europaeis necnon in periculorum narrationibus Latine interpretandis collocavit.

Verum enimvero, ad eundem prorsus finem spectavit etiam propositum ergasterii virtualis Officina Latinitatis instituendi, utpote blog sive repositorium, ubi vero, magistris necnon sermonis Romani cultoribus moderantibus, quisquis reperire aut in lucem edere posset scripta Latina, potissimum vernacula iucunda miraque, varia (at semper recta et castigata!) Latinitate donata, magno cum studio legenda ad cognitionem sermonis Latini penitus confirmandam. Omnes porro lectores exhortamur, ut opem libere conferant et hoc bonae spei consilium una nobiscum ad peroptatum exitum deducant, non solum legendo, sed maxime nova scribendo fabularum vernacularum interpretamenta, ut occasionem quidem Latinitatem "viva" ratione magis callendi necnon thesaurum litterarum neo-Latinarum novis scriptis ditandi sibi capiant.

Officina Latinitatis è un laboratorio virtuale dedicato alla lingua latina, un luogo in cui docenti, studenti e semplici appassionati possano condividere con il mondo letteratura e narrativa latina moderna, ovvero neo-latina, in particolar modo  traduzioni originali in latino dal volgare (come si usava fare in un tempo in fondo non così lontano), coltivando così in modo "vivo" e attivo la lingua latina e seguendo l'esempio del latinista ungherese Arcadius Avellanus (Arkàd Mogyoròssi). Questi avvertì infatti con singolare chiarezza, nel suo ruolo di precettore privato dei nipoti di John D. Rockefeller (forse il più ricco uomo d'affari del suo tempo), come, per raggiungere un buon livello d'uso e comprensione di una qualsiasi lingua straniera, sia assolutamente necessario avere a disposizione del materiale di lettura non solo formalmente corretto, ma che sia allo stesso tempo linguisticamente accessibile  e soprattutto interessante, piacevole, intrattenente (pleasure reading): condizioni che non si realizzano spesso all'interno di quello che oggi costituisce lo sconfinato patrimonio letterario della lingua latina. Fu da questa intuizione che prese avvio larga parte dell'opera di traduzione di Avellanus, costituita da interpretazioni latine di favole europee e romanzi d'avventura, pensate per avvicinare i nipoti di Rockefeller alla lingua latina.

Dalle stesse premesse nasce Officina Latinitatis, un blog guidato da docenti e appassionati della lingua degli antichi romani, in cui sarà possibile reperire e pubblicare materiale di lettura coinvolgente e interessante e che sia d'ausilio per rafforzare la conoscenza della lingua latina: non solo leggendo, ma soprattutto scrivendo e rendendo disponibili nuove traduzioni latine (dallo stile vario e differenziato, ma sempre formalmente corretto) di originali in volgare, alla cui creazione tutti possono e sono invitati a partecipare, cogliendo un'entusiasmante occasione di approfondire la conoscenza della lingua in modo "vivo" e di partecipare alla produzione di nuova letteratura neo-latina.

Officina Latinitatis is a virtual laboratory dedicated to the Latin language, a place where teachers, students and simple enthusiasts can freely share modern Latin (i.e. neo-Latin) writings and narrative literature, especially original Latin translations from the vernacular (as it used to be in a not so distant past), thus actively studying and practicing the Latin language, in a "living" way, and following the example of the Hungarian Latinist Arcadius Avellanus (Arkàd Mogyoròssi). In fact, as the private teacher of John D. Rockefeller's (maybe the richest businessman of his time) grandchildren, he clearly felt that, to achieve a good level of use and understanding of any foreign language, it is absolutely necessary to have reading material available, that should be not only formally correct, but at the same time linguistically accessible and above all interesting, pleasurable, entertaining ("pleasure reading"): conditions which are not always met within what constitutes the boundless literary heritage of the Latin language. It was from this intuition that a large part of Avellanus's translation work began, consisting of Latin translations of European fairy tales and adventure novels, designed to introduce Rockefeller's grandchildren to the Latin language.

From the same premises Officina Latinitatis was born, a blog led by teachers and enthusiasts of the language of the ancient Romans, where it will be possible to find and publish engaging and interesting Latin reading material to help improving the knowledge of the language of the ancient Romans, not only reading, but especially writing new Latin translations (with a varied and differentiated, but always formally correct style) of vernacular originals, in whose creation everyone can and is invited to participate, taking this exciting opportunity to deepen the knowledge of the Latin language in a "living" way and to take part in the production of new neo-Latin literature.
